When COVID-19 first surfaced in Asia in January 2020, Japan made global news with its cruise ship challenge in the port of Yokohama. From hindsight, this was handled fairly well and did not spread. Indeed, for most of 2020 Japan looked like a poster-child of how to handle the pandemic. Butin early 2021 the country was hit harder, many hospitals reached their limits, and lockdowns were ordered. Join one of Japan's leading public health experts to learn about the current situation, what the health officials are planning, and how to weigh Japan's prospects.

Guest Speaker:
Ung-il Chung/Yuichi Tei is Dean and Professor, School of Health Innovation, Kanagawa University of Human Services, as well as Professor of Bioengineering, The University of Tokyo. He earned his degrees from The University of Tokyo School of Medicine in 1997, and was appointed Instructor, and then Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School. He returned to his alma mater in 2002, to the Graduate Schools of Medicine and Engineering, with a specialty in skeletal biology/regenerative medicine and biomaterial science. He is also Deputy Director and Research Leader, Center of Innovation "Self-managing
Healthy Society", where he promotes industry-academia cooperation projects on individual health personalization and behavioral change. At the Kanagawa University of Human Services, he attempts to systematize the ME-BYO concept for social implementation.

Moderator:
Ulrike Schaede is Professor of Japanese Business at GPS, UC San Diego, and the Director of JFIT. Her research focuses on Japan's changing corporate
strategies, including business culture, change management, and business organization. Her 2020 book "The Business Reinvention of Japan" analyzes
how Japanese companies are responding to the rise of China and the changing global competition.

We hope to see you there!
