[SSJ: 11262] Japan Forum Podcast 9 with Francesca Di Marco, Director of "Who Won the War"

From: Bill Mihalopoulous <bm25@soas.ac.uk>
Date: 2020/11/28

Japan Forum spoke to cultural historian and documentary film-maker Dr Francesca Di Marco on her latest film, Who Won the War. The documentary focuses on Takashi, an eldest son and sole surviving member of his family after the Hiroshima atomic bombing. Dr Di Marco talks about the origins of the project, how the documentary draws on Takashi's voice to try and understand the full impact the bombings had on individual lives, and the way film and oral testimony intervene in the political and academic accounts of the atomic bombing via the insertion of responsibility and atonement to the existing narrative.
