CIEE: The Council on International Educational Exchange is seeking a Summer Internship Program Instructor for our 2020 Global Internship Program

CIEE:
A nonprofit, non-governmental organization, CIEE is the country's oldest and largest nonprofit study abroad and intercultural exchange organization. Since 1947, CIEE has helped thousands of people gain the knowledge and skills necessary to live and work in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world by offering the most comprehensive, relevant, and valuable exchange programs available. CIEE operates 60+ centers in 45 countries that support more than 250 study abroad programs for 10,000-plus students from 340 U.S. colleges and universities annually. As the largest sponsor for U.S. Department of State J-1 Visa programs, CIEE also helps nearly 40,000 international students participate in U.S.-based exchange programs each year. CIEE programs and services span study abroad, teach abroad, international faculty training, and various specialty and custom programs for secondary, post-secondary, and international students.

Summary of Position:

This position supports strategic growth of internships and experiential learning in Tokyo through the streamlined coordination and improvement of all relevant services.

The Summer Global Internship Instructor will assist local site staff in delivering the mandatory Summer Global Internship hybrid online course. The instructor will be responsible for leading weekly co-curricular excursions, taking attendance, grading, holding debrief sessions, as well as contextualizing activities to provide local relevance for global content provided online. Additionally, the Summer Global Internship Instructor will hold regular office hours and check in meetings with Summer Global Internship students to monitor engagement in the online course and in the local internship.

The Summer Global Internship Instructor will provide the local program management team as well as academics team in Tokyo with regular feedback on student participation and progress throughout the duration of the program. Approximately 60 hours of work is anticipated for duration of the Summer Global Internship program (May 18, 2020 - July 13, 2020).

Primary Responsibilities:
• Attend online training and planning meeting with central CIEE academic and program management staff before the program begins
• Review and become familiarized with the academic and professional backgrounds of the students attending the Summer Global Internship program in your city
• Review and become familiar with the online Academic Internship course, its readings, schedule, and structure, and liaise directly with central online instructor throughout the course
• Become proficient in using Canvas, our online Learning Management System, for communicating with students, accepting and grading assignments, and posting updates and co-curricular schedule
• Follow local co-curricular schedule developed to run alongside the online course, including:
o Preparation for each co-curricular
o Liaising with relevant speakers or staff prior to the co-curricular
o Leading discussions related to the co-curricular
o Prepare and deliver de-brief sessions to provide students with context and tie-in to weekly themes and local internship experience
o Attend all co-curriculars and take attendance
• Support Summer Global Internship students with mandatory and options office hours and check-in meetings
• Weekly check-ins with local Summer Global Internship delivery teams, including internship placement team, Academic Director (when applicable), online instructor, and others as needed
• Grade all student work submitted for the course and assign students a final grade based on course grading rubric and internship participation.
• Adhere to all CIEE academic policies, standards, and expectations as outlined in the Academic Manual for Faculty
• Other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Skill Requirements:
• Master's degree in relevant field required; Master's degree in business administration, organizational leadership, or other management field preferred
• University-level teaching experience required
• Knowledge of Tokyo and its professional work environment and local internship culture
• Interest in working with American and international students, experience preferred
• Interest in experiential education and international education, experience preferred
• Experience working with online learning platforms or Learning Management Systems (like Canvas) preferred
• Excellent written and oral communication
• Ability to coordinate groups co-curricular activities and excursions
• Near-native proficiency in English
