CIEE: The Council on International Educational Exchange is seeking a Curriculum Developer & Instructor of Japanese Pop Culture for our 2020 High School Summer Abroad Program


HIGH SCHOOL SUMMER ABROAD

Session 1 dates: June 7 to June 27 (3 weeks)
Session 2 dates: June 28 to July 18 (3 weeks)
Pre-program training, curriculum development, and preparation: From January 2020
Training: Six hours training with CIEE's Academics and Curriculum team (3 hours of virtual training, 3 hours of pre-work)
Curriculum development: 30-40 hours starting immediately
Classes developed will be hands-on and interactive
Preparation: occasional virtual meetings with CIEE Tokyo staff to coordinate program activities and logistics
Program Location: Tokyo (Tokyo Central Youth Hostel)
Total class time: 55 to 60 hours (Monday through Friday and some Saturdays, approx.180 minutes with breaks)
Students are from US high schools


RESPONSIBILITIES include:

Receive training on CIEE's global learning objectives, teaching philosophy, and web-based learning platform "Canvas"
Create curriculum based on CIEE-established program goals and topics (program description available on our website)
Train and coach other instructors (if necessary)
Teach both Sessions 1 and 2


REQUIREMENTS:

College degree (Masters a plus)
At least 2 years' experience teaching to foreign high school students
Research or practical experience in the field of Japanese pop culture with a focus on anime, manga and gaming
Background in experiential learning design and/or curriculum development for high school students
English communication competency (spoken and written)
