From: Prof. Dr. Harald Conrad <conrad@phil.uni-duesseldorf.de>
Date: 2020/01/08
Dear Colleagues,
(apologies for cross-posting)
Please advertise the following job opening in your departments:
The Department of Modern Japanese Studies at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf invites applications for the position of Research Associate in Modern Japanese Studies (50 %, EG 13 TV-L on the German public service scale) to take up appointment on 1 April 2020. This is a fixed term research position (3 years), which might be extended depending on future funding. The fixed-term nature of these contracts is based upon the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG) with the objective of promoting the scientific qualification of academic employees.
This position is associated with the Chair of Modern Japanese Studies III (Prof. Dr. Harald Conrad), which focusses in its research on Japan's business and economy, social policy, economic sociology, and political economy. Current research projects look at changes in Japanese HR management, social policy in the 'gap' society as well as structures and trading practices in traditional Japanese industries.
Your planned PhD project does not need to tie itself to one of the current projects, but should fall into one of the above mentioned areas of research.
Your profile:
• An excellent Master's degree or equivalent in the field of Modern Japanese Studies, Sociology, Business or Economics
• Knowledge of and interest in research questions and methodologies pertaining to Japan's business and economy, social policy, economic sociology or political economy and its role in Asia
• An excellent command of Japanese and English
The salary will be up to pay grade 13 TV-L. Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf aims to increase its employment rate of women.
Applications from women will therefore be given preference in cases of equal aptitude, ability and professional achievements unless there are exceptional reasons for choosing another applicant.
Applications from suitably qualified severely disabled persons or disabled persons regarded as being of equal status according to Book IX of the German Social Code (SGB - Soziales Gesetzbuch) are encouraged.
For further inquiries please contact Prof. Dr. Harald Conrad (harald.conrad@hhu.de).
Candidates are requested to submit their applications in either English or German (CV, transcripts of records, contact details of two referees, 2-page-abstract of current or planned PhD project, copy of MA thesis and/or up to three publications) by 04.02.2020, citing reference 165T19-3.1 preferably in one PDF file to:
