Overview:
In the early 2000s, many predicted the death of print journalism. Yet while social media now plays a key role in the news landscape, some major U.S. newspapers have seen their circulation (including digital) grow. At the same time, many local publications have been forced to close down.

Jay Sapsford will talk about these issues and how they affect reporting in the U.S., Japan and other countries.

Speaker:
Jay Sapsford is the Deputy Bureau Chief in the Washington bureau of the Wall Street Journal, responsible for coordinating coverage across teams specializing in the White House, Congress, National Security, Macro-economy, business and the courts.

He previously spent time with Morgan Stanley in Tokyo as Chief administrative officer for the investment bank's Japan operations, and also had a short, one-year stint as a registered lobbyist with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington, focusing on Japan. As a reporter, he worked for the Wall Street Journal, Reuter's and Bloomberg covering business, finance, economy and politics in Tokyo, New York and Beijing.
