Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem https://www.v-dem.net/en/)is a new
approach to conceptualizing and measuring democracy. The V-Dem
database has over 350 indicators on democracy and political systems,
with the world-wide coverage from 1900 to the present. It is updated
annually based on the knowledge of 2,500 international experts. At
this seminar, we invite the Director of the V-Dem Institute, Staffan
I. Lindberg, to present the latest findings and the measurement issues
concerning democracy.
Staffan I. Lindbergis a founding Principal Investigator and Director
of Varieties of Democracy (V-Dem Institute), Professor of Political
Science at the University of Gothenburg, Wallenberg Academy Fellow,
and awardee of an ERC Consolidator Grant. His research appears in over
50 academic publications, on issues such as, among others, elections
and democratization, accountability, egalitarian democracy,
clientelism, sequence analysis methods, women's representation, voting
behavior and the Ghanaian legislature. Lindberg also has extensive
experience as consultant on development and democracy, and as advisor
to international organizations.
