Romain Huret is a historian, research director and currently vice-president of the EHESS (School of Advanced Social Studies). He has extensively studied the evolution of economic and social inequalities in the United States. His publications include American Tax Resisters (Harvard University Press, 2014), The Experts' War on Poverty: Social Research and the Welfare Agenda in Postwar America (Cornell University Press, 2018). His latest research is focused on the relationship between celibacy and poverty in the United States, which he tries to put in comparative perspective with Europe and Japan. He is regularly invited to comment on political and social current affairs on French radio. On October 16th and 18th, he will give three lectures on the relation between inequalities and being single in the modern and contemporary eras, focused on the United States but with a comparative perspective.
