[SSJ: 10832] Re: Climate strikes and Green politics in Japan

I find it depressing how this issue is completely ignored by everyone in education around me. The issue has never been mentioned once in a staff meeting. Fellow English teachers had not heard of climate strikes on Fridays. I told five classes of students (150 students) about Greta Thunberg last week. Not one of them had ever heard of her. I asked again this week. "Have you seen her in the news?" Not one person had seen her in the news. When I ask what we should do about climate change, they say "separate our garbage". Not one of them has any sense of urgency or danger at all. They simply do not know that their house is on fire. I think they think I am crazy when I tell them that. Of the 2,800 or so people who walked in the climate march, about half were not Japanese. A pretty pathetic turn out compared with other countries. Either the news is not being given, or they are being very complacent.
