We are looking to hire a Program Coordinator to work with our Abe Fellowship Program in Tokyo!

The principal responsibility of the position is the day-to-day implementation of the Abe Fellowship Program in Japan in partnership with and under the supervision of the SSRC's Consulting Director in Tokyo.


Qualifications:

l MA, ABD, or PhD in a social science or closely related field required.


l Fluency in written and spoken English and Japanese required; Strong writing skills in Japanese and English.


l Experience in an academic or nonprofit environment preferred.


l Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of professionalism.


l Excellent interpersonal skills; team player with demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently, and respond flexibly to changing demands.


l Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, database work, and internet-use


l Previous administrative experience.


l Interest in working in a professional role at the interface between different scholarly communities, and between the academic and philanthropic spheres.


l Ability to work in Japan (work authorization in Japan is required).


Responsibilities:


In partnership with the Consulting Director in Tokyo and colleagues in the New York office, the Program Coordinator will:


l Develop and maintain close working relationships with program fellows, faculty, graduate students, and academic administrators in Japan.


l Provide support to program fellows doing research in Japan, including assistance with interview requests, travel, affiliations, and hotel arrangements when appropriate.


l Perform administrative tasks including, but not limited to, maintaining program files and documents and preparing meeting materials.


l Liaise with the funder, program committee members, and fellows.


l Develop, implement, and coordinate program-related events in Japan, the US, and Asia.


l Oversee the planning and operations of program promotion within Japan, including the creation of program materials and assisting with marketing strategy.


l Assume responsibility for program's administrative and fiscal operations, including managing expenditures and monitoring the Tokyo office budget.


l Work with the SSRC communications and technology team and local vendors to maintain and update Japan-based computer systems, databases, and websites.


l Assist in the promotion of the Abe Fellowship Program on social media.


l Maintain alumni relations and track Abe Fellow publications and notable achievements.


l Collaborate with the New York office on all aspects of the Abe Fellowship Program, including the development, planning, and implementation of Abe Global events and products.
