Sophia University Institute of Comparative Culture presents:

STUDENT WORKSHOP ON

REFUGEES IN THE WORLD AND IN JAPAN

What happened in 2018? What is happening now? What can you do?

In recent years, record numbers of people worldwide have been forced to flee their homes because of war, persecution, or justifiable fear. But the world's wealthiest nations, instead of showing true leadership and protecting these refugees, are slamming their doors shut. They are leaving a handful of poorer countries to cope alone with 25.4 million people who desperately need help. Japan, for example, in 2018 received 10,493 applications for refugee status. It accepted 42 individuals. Today's workshop will lead to the sorts of concrete actions we can take at each level, global, national and the grassroots.
