[SSJ: 10613] Comfort Women Documentary Theatrical Roadshow in Japan Starting April 20th
From: Mikine Films <mikine.films@gmail.com>
Date: 2019/04/12
Dear SSJ members,
If it is ok, I'd like to announce that my film, "Shusenjo: The Main Battleground of the Comfort Women Issue," will have a theatrical roadshow in Japan starting April 20th at Theater Image Forum in Shibuya (4 to 5 week run). The following weeks later it will be shown at theaters in 14 other cities around Japan. The full list can be found at the bottom of the page of this link http://shusenjo.jp <http://shusenjo.jp/>
An English/Japanese dual subtitled version of the film will be shown each Friday evening screening (6:45pm) at Theater Image Forum. All other times will only have Japanese subtitles.
I will be doing short Q&A sessions at Theater Image Forum for these screenings:
April 20th 10:50am and 1:30pm (Japanese)
April 26th 6:45pm (English)
The film features interviews with Sakurai Yoshiko, Kent Gilbert, Sugita Mio, Yoshimi Yoshiaki, Hayashi Hirofumi, Nakano Koichi, and Watanabe Mina (among many others).
From an article by by Karen Severns at the FCCJ:
"Surprisingly, until Miki Dezaki's Shusenjo: The Main Battleground of the Comfort Women Issue, there has not been a feature documentary that thoroughly investigates the facts, figures, opinions and distortions of both sides. For this reason alone -- and there are many, many others -- the film is absolutely essential viewing."

Director Bio:
Miki Dezaki is a recent graduate (March 2018) of the Graduate Program in Global Studies at Sophia University in Tokyo. He worked for the Japan Exchange Teaching Program for five years in Yamanashi and Okinawa before becoming a Buddhist monk in Thailand for one year. He is also known as ``Medamasensei`` on Youtube, where he has made comedy videos and videos on social issues in Japan. His most notable video is "Racism in Japan," which led to numerous online attacks by Japanese neo-nationalists who attempted to deny the existence of racism and discrimination against Zainichi Koreans (Koreans with permanent residency in Japan) and Burakumin (historical outcasts still discriminated today). ``Shusenjo`` is his directorial debut.
I hope to see you all there!
Kindest regards,
Miki Dezaki
