Overview:

One of the key factors advanced by Japan in its bid to secure the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was its investment in technology to support not only the Games but to secure its place as the world's most advanced urban metropolis. As the Tokyo 2020 games approach, media attention has focused on lackluster leadership, but behind-the-scenes preparedness will depend on protecting the assets and integrating the perspectives of a wide variety of stakeholders, including government and industry. This session will identify the potential cyber-threat actors, from state-sponsored to young hackers, and discuss the technologies which could be exploited.

Michael Johnson has considerable experience framing these complex and unpredictable issues in an approachable and engaging format suitable for a lay audience. In addition to providing an overview of the issues, such as blockchain, quantum computing, and cryptocurrencies, the speaker will discuss the critical-need for cyber security career pathways, for which bright minds are being recruited from colleges, high schools and even middle schools.


Speaker:
Michael Johnson Far East Cyber Security Director, U.S. Naval Facilities Command Far East (NAVFACFE). Mr. Johnson is Cyber Security Director for Yokosuka, Atsugi, Misawa, and Okinawa Japan, along with Singapore, Korea, and Diego Garcia. Mr. Johnson has experience within every key US Federal Agency (CIA, FBI, NSA) concerned with information security. He is responsible for ensuring the security of installation networked devices as well as the operational security of physical assets throughout the Indo-Pacific Command. In this capacity, Mr. Johnson regularly evaluates phishing, diverse threats, and proactively identifies vulnerabilities. The audience will appreciate Mr. Johnson's broad technical and operational knowledge as he speaks to the critical "why" of cyber security in the modern geopolitical landscape.
