[SSJ: 10515] January 23 Free Lecture at Lakeland University: Accessible Travel in Japan

From: Roger Grabowski <grabowski@japan.lakeland.edu>
Date: 2019/01/11

"Accessible Travel in Japan - Challenges and Opportunities", presented by Josh Grisdale

This lecture (in English) will be held Wednesday, January 23 at 7:00 at Lakeland University in Shinjuku.

Despite there being over 1.7 billion people who have a disability worldwide, this population is often overlooked when it comes to leisure and travel opportunities. With over £1.7 billion spent on accessible tourism per year in the UK alone, this is not a niche market - it is an untapped market! As Japan works to revitalize the economy via tourism, is the industry missing out on a potential opportunity? What are some challenges facing the accessible travel market in Japan?

Josh Grisdale is originally from Canada and became interested in Japan during high school. He refused to let his disability stop him from following his dream to live and work in Japan and moved to Tokyo in 2007. He now works as the web master for Azalee Group in Edogawa. He became a Japanese citizen in 2016. In his spare time he travels around and reports on accessibility of popular tourist attractions for his website, Accessible Japan, to encourage people with disabilities to come and visit the country he loves. https://www.accessible-japan.com/
