[SSJ: 10502] Social movements in post-3.11 Japan: January 27 Symposium

From: Holthus Barbara <holthus@dijtokyo.org>
Date: 2018/12/24

Symposium: Social Movements in Post-3.11 Japan

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake from March 11, 2011, large scale demonstrations against nuclear energy and the country's new security legislation began to shake politics. Prior, Japanese social movements suffered from almost complete invisibility and inexistence for almost forty years. We ask who these people were that joined the movements and demonstrated and discuss what larger social significance the demonstrations have? The symposium presents the analysis of data gathered from close to 80.000 people in 2017.
