2019-20 FELLOWSHIPS IN JAPANESE STUDIES AT HARVARD UNIVERSITY


• WCFIA PROGRAM ON U.S.-JAPAN RELATIONS POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS


During the 2019-20 academic year, the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations, which is part of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs (WCFIA) at Harvard University, will offer postdoctoral fellowships for social scientists. Scholars in a broad range of fields, including anthropology, economics, education, history, international relations, law, political science, public health, public policy, and sociology, are invited to apply. A knowledge of the Japanese language is not required. The fellowship recipient must hold a doctoral degree by August 1, 2019.


DEADLINE: January 15, 2019 (Tuesday)

Appointment: 10 months, beginning in September 2019

Grant Amount: $60,000 stipend (10 months); health insurance coverage for grantee; up to $5,000 in research funds.

• REISCHAUER INSTITUTE POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN JAPANESE STUDIES


The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies (RIJS) at Harvard University will offer several Postdoctoral Fellowships in Japanese Studies to recent Ph.D. graduates of exceptional promise, to provide the opportunity for postdoctoral fellows to turn their dissertations into publishable manuscripts. Postdoctoral fellows are expected to reside in the Cambridge area during the appointment term and participate in RIJS activities and events. Postdoctoral fellows will also be expected to give a presentation at the RIJS Japan Forum lecture series. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. in 2014 or later, in Japanese studies, in any area of the humanities or social sciences. RIJS especially encourages applications from those who have not previously held postdoctoral appointments at Harvard. Those who are selected to receive fellowships must have a Registrar-certified Ph.D. degree by June 30, 2019.

• REISCHAUER INSTITUTE JAPAN DIGITAL FELLOWSHIP/POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP


The Edwin O. Reischauer Institute of Japan Studies (RIJS) at Harvard University invites applications for a Digital Fellow/Postdoctoral Fellow position in Japanese Studies. This position is intended for individuals working in the field of Japanese studies with an interest and commitment to the promotion of digital methods of inquiry, research, publication, and preservation, particularly within the humanities and social sciences. A strong working knowledge of both Japanese and English languages is required. A Ph.D. is not required for this position, but applicants who wish to be considered as a Digital Postdoctoral Fellow must have received their Ph.D. in 2014 or later.
