Dear SSJ-Forum members,

Please find below the programmes for a pair of symposiums I have been organizing on the very varied experiences of the victims of the 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster. This weekend (July 7/8) there'll be a bilingual (English/Japanese) symposium at the Meiji Gakuin campus in Totsuka, Yokohama, featuring seven researchers who have been working on the plight of Fukushima evacuees for many years, along with six of the evacuees themselves, who will talk about what they have been through the last 7 years and more. Then next weekend (Sat July 14) there'll be a second symposium in Fukushima city, this time in Japanese only.

Attendance for either event is free, but please let me know in advance if you plan to attend either event.

* The Yokohama symposium will be a unique opportunity to hear presentations by seven researchers who have been following the lives of evacuees from the Fukushima nuclear disaster for over seven years. Some were forced to evacuate, other did so in defiance of government safety assurances. Some stayed in Fukushima prefecture; others fled much further. Five of the researchers will be accompanied by their key informants - victims of the nuclear disaster who will speak directly about their experiences. Interpretation between English and Japanese will be provided.

* For information on the symposium, write to Tom Gill at gill@k.meijigakuin.ac.jp or phone 080-5409-6151.
