The Department of Modern Japanese Studies at Heinrich Heine University Dusseldorf invites applications for the position of
Research and Teaching Associate in Modern Japanese Studies
(Cultural Studies/Media and Genders/Sexualities)
(100%, EG 13 TV-L on the German public service scale)
to take up appointment on 01.10.2018. This is a fixed term research and teaching position (2 years, with the possibility of extension) that is associated with the Chair of Modern Japan I and is deemed to enhance the cultural, social and political expertise in gender and sexualities studies. The fixed-term nature of these contracts is based upon the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG) with the objective of promoting the scientific qualification of the academic employees.
Your tasks:
You will develop your own research profile and will participate in planning, writing and executing research proposals for acquisition of third party funding. Research projects will be informed by transcultural and transnational perspectives within the Asian context. You will be expected to teach 4 classes per year. Proficiency in German as the working language is required.
Your profile:
- An excellent and completed university degree (M.Sc., MA, Diploma, Magister) in the field of Modern Japanese Studies;
- PhD in the field of cultural studies, modern history or social sciences of modern Japan
- Solid analytical knowledge of modern Japanese history since 1868 and of contemporary cultural, social and political issues in the country
- An excellent command of Japanese and English
- Research publications on media/gender/sexuality
- Experiences in the acquisition of third party funding
- International research experiences
The salary will be, depending on the personal qualification of the applicant, up to pay grade 13 TV-L.
At Heinrich Heine University Dusseldorf, appointments may also be part-time, provided there are no overriding administrative reasons in individual cases for requiring full-time employment.
