/The Naked World/ is volume two in dystopian Science Fiction (SF) trilogy /the Jubilee Cycle/, which is set in a near future Tokyo where all actions--from blinking to sexual intercourse--are intellectual properties owned by corporations that charge licensing fees.
In volume one, /Cash Crash Jubilee/, Amon Kenzaki works as a Liquidator, apprehending bankrupt citizens and banishing them to bankdeath camps, until he is charged unjustly for an incredibly expensive action called jubilee and begins to slip towards bankruptcy in his quest for answers.
In volume two, /The Naked World/, Amon seeks megaconglomerate heiress, Rashana Birla, the one person that might help him unravel the mystery of jubilee, and travels into the District of Dreams, a bankdeath camp located on a manmade island in Tokyo Bay. There he teams up with a group of outcasts to resist the Philanthropy Syndicate and expose a heinous secret at the heart of the action-transaction market.
/The Jubilee Cycle/ trilogy is published by American publisher Skyhorse. Publisher's Weekly calls /Cash Crash Jubilee/ an "intricate tale of a digitally claustrophobic future," the Midwest Book Review describes /The Naked World/ as "narrative driven storytelling of the first order" and the Barnes & Noble SF&F blog offers the following summary of the series:
"A world pulled straight from the best episode of Black Mirror never made... /Cash Crash Jubilee/ is an unheralded gem of new wave cyberpunk, and the sequel takes things to the next level." The final volume of the trilogy, /A Diamond Dream/, is due for release in 2019.
Eli K.P William; Canadian author of /The Jubilee Cycle/, has worked in Tokyo as a Japanese-English translator for nearly a decade. In addition to his fiction writing, he has contributed articles to such media as /The Japan Times/,/Tor.com/, /Writer's Digest/, and /Now Magazine/, and his writing in Japanese was published for the first time this year in literary journal /The Subaru/.
