[SSJ: 7896] Position Announcement 5 Junior Research Group Leaders, please circulate

From: Helmut Demes
Date: 2012/12/20

Dear colleagues

the Institute of East Asian Studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen will establish a new School of Advanced Studies on Innovation in East Asia by establishing Junior Research Groups starting April 1,
2013 – pending final approval of funding by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

The IN-EAST School of Advanced Studies invites applications for Five Junior Research Group Leaders

(full-time postdoc positions; Entgeltgruppe 14 TV-L)

The School will focus on innovations in two areas: New forms of mobility (e-mobility) and urbanization. Inter alia the School aims to narrow the gap between disciplines and regional studies by strengthening the application of well developed theoretical and methodological approaches, in particular process tracing, emergence and experimental economics, to research in area studies.

Each junior research group consists of three members and is led by a post-doctoral scholar, who is responsible for designing the group’s project, helping to recruit excellent doctoral candidates for the group; supervising the group’s doctoral candidates, and managing and monitoring the group’s research activities as well as its interactions with other groups. Junior research group leaders are supported by two experienced professors acting as mentors.

Applicants with a background in the field of economics, innovation management (preferably in e-mobility), sociology, political science, humanities and urban planning / urban development are invited.

The School offers successful applicants a well established and highly dynamic research environment as well as a research budget. The project duration is three years and an extension is possible.

Applicants are expected to hold a doctoral degree and to have a strong publication record. We are looking for researchers with a track record in research and a proven interest in East Asia; knowledge of an East Asian language and German is an advantage. A command of English is a prerequisite.

The University of Duisburg-Essen aims at promoting the diversity of its members (see http://www.uni-due.de/diversity). It aims at increasing the share of female faculty members and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. Women with equal qualifications will, in accordance with state equality legislation, be given priority.
People with disabilities are encouraged to apply (see §
2 Abs. 3 SGB IX).

Applications (incl. CV, list of publications and a research proposal of up to 5 pages, incl. literature) are to be submitted in one electronic file to the designated director of the School Prof. Markus Taube
(markus.taube[at]uni-due.de) by Jan. 9, 2013. In addition a letter of recommendation from a scholar able to assess your research must be sent directly to Prof.
Markus Taube, IN-EAST, University of Duisburg-Essen, Campus Duisburg, Forsthausweg 2, 47057 Duisburg.
