Thanks for the additional insights into foreign coverage of Japan. I would only add that some Japanese stringers for the smaller papers in the U.S. do a very good job of covering Japan although publications of articles on Japan is infrequent.
As for: "In recessionary Japan, the reckless use of the combustion engine is a hobby for the old and rich "ojisan" often trying to recapture a youth in which he was too overworked and cash-strapped to drive a supercar."
The additional irony of this statement is that earlier in the same article the TIMES (of London) journalists had actually reported that the people involved in the crash ranged from 37 years old to those in their 60s!!
Anyone on this Forum usually refer to those in their 30s and 40s and "ojisan"?
