Paul: Agreed. There are other extremely diverse countries (EU a bit different since it's not one country and few make generalizations about it, especially these days!). And even Japan I would have problem with stereotypical generalizations. Again, my point was that if we have a problem as social scientists with stereotypical generalizations about countries like Japan then let's be careful also about how e discuss a pretty diverse society like the U.S.
