Mr. Benes will describe recent developments in corporate governance in Japan, including the ongoing amendment of the Company Law, post-Fukushima.

*Speaker*

Nicholas Benes is President and founder of JTP Corporation, an independent consulting firm in Tokyo that advises Japanese and foreign clients on M&A transactions. He now spends much of his time managing The Board Director Institute of Japan (“BDTI”), a non-profit foundation. He is also Governor, ACCJ, and Chair of the Growth Strategy Task Force; member, FSA Corporate Governance Liason Group.

The Board Director Training Institute of Japan (BDTI) is a non-profit incorporated association dedicated to improving corporate governance and related management processes in Japan. BDTI’s primary mission is to train directors, statutory auditors and managers regarding corporate governance and effective board practices.
BDTI also operates an internet discussion forum on these topics.

Prior to founding JTP Corporation, Mr. Benes was Senior Managing Director in charge of investment banking for The Kamakura Corporation from 1994 to 1997. From 1983 to 1994, he worked as an investment banker at JP Morgan, stationed in New York, Tokyo and London as a Vice President, leading transactions and units in a variety of different product areas.
Mr. Benes holds a BA in Political Science from Stanford University, received his MBA and law degrees (JD-MBA) from UCLA, and was an exchange student at Keio University. (for more information visit http://bdti.or.
