May I commend Ronald Dore for his incisive and persuasive commentary on why Japan should withdraw from the NPT and ditch the US-Japan Security Treaty, and thank the SSJ-Forum for publishing it. His arguments are wonderfully provocative - we need a lot more discussion like this! He, like others, has drawn our attention to the arrant hypocrisy in the way in which the NPT has been used as an instrument of US/Western strategic diplomacy, with all its inherent double standards, and which has served fundamentally to undermine the treaty as an effective instrument of nuclear non-proliferation. This does not prevent, of course, the powerful dressing up their actions in the cloak of principle.
