Invitation for Applications for the Position of Project Research Associate
The College of Arts and Sciences of the University of Tokyo will launch brand new undergraduate English-language based degree programs (called PEAK:
Programs in English at Komaba), commencing in the fall of 2012. PEAK invites applications for the position of Tokunin Jokyo (Project Research Associate), who will assist with various coordination activities for a successful execution of the programs. (For further details of PEAK, refer to http://peak.c.u-tokyo.ac.jp).
The duties of this position will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
preparation of the curriculum for PEAK classes
assistance with the development of other related courses, if necessary, for the incoming PEAK students, who will be majoring in either "Japan in East Asia" or "Environmental Sciences"
assistance with the development of the student support system for PEAK students
assistance with the overall management of PEAK Number of Positions: one Start of Employment: February 1, 2012 or later Required Qualifications
(1) Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in a relevant field.
(2) Candidates must have the ability to carry out their work without hindrance in both Japanese and English.
Employment Conditions:
1. The term of employment is for one year,
renewable twice (maximum of three years).
2. The annual salary is 4.8 million yen. In
addition, commuting expenses will be provided by the university. Health benefits stipulated by the university will also be provided.
3.ou will be expected to be present on campus at least four weekdays per week.
4. The employment contract is for a full twelve
months per year, with paid vacation time according to the university's rules. You will also be subject to the university's regulations regarding travel and outside activities.
5. Part-time teaching outside the university, if
any, is to be done on the day not present at Komaba.
The maximum teaching load for such outside work is two classes per week. The scheduling requirements at Komaba must be given priority, and the official approval of the chair of PEAK and the dean is required.
6. Other conditions shall be as stipulated by the
regulations of The University of Tokyo

(2) List of publications and academic presentations
(3) Originals or photocopies of not more than two publications
(4) Statement of your language skills
(5) A short essay (of about 500 words) highlighting what you feel are the most important benefits and challenges associated with the internationalization of universities.
(6) Names of two professional references including telephone numbers and e-mail addresses.

Write "Application for Project Research Associate" in red ink on the envelope and send all the necessary materials by registered mail. Application materials must be received by PEAK by November 25, 2011.
Application materials will not be returned.
Selection Process:
Applicants may be interviewed if necessary. Applicants will be notified of the results of the selection after final approval by the Faculty Meeting.
