Gender, work and family life
After decades of efforts to promote gender equality, why do women and men still not have the same possibilities and share the same responsibilities in society, at home, and in the workplace? This course focuses on the interrelationships between work and family, with gender as the significant factor affecting these relationships. We will cover theoretical perspectives on gender, discover untold stories of women in Japanese history, learn about international approaches and differences in gender, work and family lives, and discuss strategies to increase gender equality in society as well as in our everyday lives.
In this course you will learn how to use gender as a category of analysis, but also how to reflect on the manifestation of gender in your own life, leading to a range of personal and intellectual discoveries.
