Dear family, friends, colleagues and fans of the Legend Prof.Kamal Salibi

Lebanon and the Arab world had a great lost when Professor Kamal Suleiman Salibi passed away on Thursday September 1, 2011.The people whose lives he touched span the distance of our country,he traveled among us and touched our lives in ways that made us grow, also he had a significant impact on the lives of many history scholars. I am Habib al-Badawi one of them.

Professor Salibi is the Icon for every Lebanese scholar studying History, I grow up reading your amazing books, this magical experience was like traveling in time and place, even living by spirit in the historical eras he wrote about and analyzed. After earning my B.A in Business I began a new educational path in History major motivated by the life-time achievement of Prof.Kamal, step by step he encouraged me. During the last stage of writing my M.A thesis I was reading his journey in life "طائر على سنديانة"
which gave me more inspiration to become a Historian.
Gratitude is the memory of the heart, that's why during my "Thesis Defence" on Wednesday April 27, 2011 he was in my thoughts and mind, I sent him a greeting after my success, a thank you from a Beginner Dreamer to his Ideal Icon مثل اعلى

I sent him a copy of my Masters thesis The Political History of Japan between the two World Wars (in Arabic
language) on Wednesday June 1, 2011. I was honored by his comments which reveals his combination of greatness and modesty. On Thursday September 1, 2011, I mailed him seeking his acceptance to be my advisor and mentor in my Doctoral quest. That day knowledge and education sorely missed the Legend Professor Kamal Salibi, the great historian of modern Lebanon, the Arab world, and the Bible; and a man of outstanding human qualities.

This Lebanese and Arab icon will rise again resembling the Phoenix طائر الفينيق through his theories and methods, reviving his glorious name I created this Facebook Page:

His publications and our stories are his legacy.
Please share your stories, videos and pictures, together we tell the story of his life. This page is made in tribute to a man who dedicated his life to making a difference for others, share your memory or story here. It is after all, the story of his great life and it's also a place for those who loved him to support one another in this tragic loss.

Prof.Kamal Salib was a distinguished historian and prolific author, he lived most of his fruitful life in our beloved Lebanon and in Jordan during the Lebanese civil war. As a salutation to him I dedicated my last research "The Jordanian-Israeli Borders" which I sent to the Doha Institution in Qatar to him, this will be the first wave of my loyalty to the man who shaped the way to the young scholars and researchers, I describe his first steps as Ellis Sharp (The Bloating of
Nellcock) said: "At the age of six his future as a deipnosophist seemed certain. Guzzling filched apples he loved to prattle. Hogging the pie he invariably piped up and rattled on", then when he guided me I'm addressing him by quoting from Sir. William Shakespeare :"Upon your sword, Sit laurel victory! and smooth success, Be strew’d before your feet!" (Antony and Cleopatra, 1.3.121-123).

Looking forward for you participation in =In Memory of Prof.Kamal Salibi=

Sincerely

Habib
