Post-Earthquake Building Support Symposium
In response to the massive earthquake and tsunami which hit Northeastern Japan, the United Nations University Institute for Sustainability and Peace (UNU-ISP), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of the Environment, are jointly hosting a symposium on Sunday, 22 May 2011, at the U-Thant International Conference Hall at the United Nations University Headquarters in Toyko, to address ways to rebuild, and also explore the possibilities for environmentally friendly sustainable policies.
Mr. Shigeatsu Hatakeyama, the founder of the NGO "Mori wa Umi no Koibito", has firsthand experience as a practitioner in both industries and is also a survivor of the disaster. He will give a talk addressing the important but often overlooked link between the forest and the sea, human habitats, biodiversity, and the revival of agricultural forestry industries and fisheries.
Next will be presentations and a panel discussion consisting of specialists and policymakers who will address proposals to support the people of the affected regions.
See the attached flyer for more information.
