Date: 2011/04/26
Dear Colleagues:
Below please find the description of 4 elected positions coming open on the NCC Council. We seek your nominations and self-nominations for these positions.
We look forward to hearing from you. Best, Vickey
Seeking Nominations for NCC Council Positions:
The North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources (the NCC) anticipates a number of openings for elected position on the NCC Council to be filled in the next year to eighteen months. NCC seeks nominations for candidates to fill those slots, which
include: two faculty positions, one each in the social sciences and the humanities, and two slots for Japanese or East Asian studies librarians, one of which will be the chair of the Digital Resources Committee. Each position is for a full voting member of the NCC Council serving three-year terms. All council members are expected to attend the NCC¹s yearly working meeting generally held in the fall, to attend NCC¹s Open Meeting in conjunction with AAS, and to serve as a member and/or co-chair of one or more NCC committee, task force, or working group.
As is required by its by-laws, the NCC seeks to include among Council members faculty and librarians from diverse regions of the country, from institutions of varying size, and from Japanese and East Asian studies programs with a range of strengths and foci. Selection of candidates will, therefore, take into consideration the current representation on the Council in filling these positions. A full list of the current members of the Council is contained on the NCC Web Page at http://www.nccjapan.org/ (under About the NCC). Formerly elected Council members are ineligible to serve again. A list of past NCC Members by slot can be found in the history section of the NCC Website.
The descriptions of the positions are as follows.
NCC Social Science Faculty Member: NCC¹s social sciences faculty representatives are generally tenured faculty from the fields of Japanese Anthropology, Business/Economics, Government/Political Science, Law or Sociology. Candidates should be active teachers (ideally at the undergraduate and graduate levels) and scholars who actively use library and information resources. NCC especially seeks those with an interest in improving access to such materials, who actively use digital resources on Japan, and who are interested in learning more about the growing range of resources available in Japanese studies.
NCC Humanities Faculty Member: NCC¹s humanities faculty representatives are generally tenured faculty from the fields of Japanese art and architectural history, cultural studies, history, literature, or religion.
NCC Librarian Members: It is expected that each librarian member will co-chair one or more NCC group. In this round NCC seeks a new Chair for the Digital Resources Committee (DRC). Other major NCC groups include the Multi-Volume Sets Grants Committee (MVS); the ILL/DD Committee that oversees the Global ILL Framework (GIF); the Image Use Protocol Working Group (IUP); the Cooperative Collections Working Group (CCWG), and the Librarian Professional Development Working Group (LPDG). Council Members may also serve as a member or co-chair of newly formed NCC task forces or working groups that may tackle new problems facing the field.
Questions and nominations for these positions should be sent to NCC Executive Director Victoria Bestor at vbestor@fas.harvard.edu by May 15, 2011.
Self-nominations will be accepted.
Following review by the NCC Executive Committee, eligible candidates will be contacted to determine their willingness to stand for election. Candidates who agree to stand will be asked to submit a short CV and a brief statement expressing their interest in the position and demonstrating the special qualifications they would bring to the NCC. Nominees will be screened by the NCC Executive Committee and elected by the full NCC Council.
