[SSJ: 6622] U.S. Military Aid to Japan

From: Tracy Timmons-Gray
Date: 2011/04/10

Dear SSJ Forum members,

We would like to share with you a new NBR interview with Admiral Thomas Fargo, who was commander of U.S. Pacific Command from 2002-05 and oversaw the U.S.
military relief efforts following the 2004 Southeast Asia tsunami.

In this interview, Admiral Fargo explains that long-term cooperation among militaries lays the groundwork for timely assistance to countries affected by natural disasters. He also discusses how the aid efforts for the Great East Japan Earthquake compare to those for the 2004 Southeast Asia tsunami, and what the joint relief operations reveal about the future of the Japan-U.S. alliance.
