[SSJ: 6619] Social Science Dissertation Workshop for April

From: John Campbell
Date: 2011/04/08

After a one-month hiatus, the next meeting of the workshop is Thursday, April 21, noon, at the usual place in Shaken.* Presenting will be Christian Wirth, a Swiss PhD Candidate in International Studies at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies at Waseda. His project is "The Nexus Between Traditional and Non-Traditional Security Cooperation in Japan-China Relations:
Constructing a New Northeast Asia." It is often argued, Chris says, that in East Asia international cooperation is politically easier to achieve in response to non-traditional security concerns than for traditional security issues, and that such cooperation helps build political trust among governments. To address this proposition, he examines the evolution of cooperation--and the obstacles--in cases of traditional security (diplomatic interaction, CSBM) and non-traditional security (environmental pollution and ocean management) in Japan-China relations since the mid-1990s.

These workshops consist of short informal presentations and losts of discussion. Guests are welcome; I appreciate your letting me know in advance but it isn't required.
