[SSJ: 6430] Invitation to EIJS Academy seminar, December 21st

From: Miki Futagawa
Date: 2010/11/17

Invitation to EIJS Academy Seminars 2010-2011 The 4th Seminar on Tuesday, December 21st, 2010

Topic: "Deflation and Monetary Policy"

Speaker: Dr. Tsutomu Watanabe, Ph.D.
Professor
Hitotsubashi University

Dr. Watanabe’s research focuses on the mechanisms determining firms' prices setting and optimal monetary policy. In the emergence of deflation in Japan, he concentrates on the mechanisms of deflation. He has published a paper that the optimal monetary policy rule is the one based on inflation targeting with a zero bound to interest rates. In the presentation, we would like to listen to his analysis on price fluctuations under the deflation economy and listen to his thoughts on where Japan’s economy is going: is it inflation, stagflation or something else?

Dr. Watanabe received his undergraduate degree from University of Tokyo and obtained Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University in 1992. He entered Bank of Japan in 1982 and moved to Hitotsubashi University, Institute of Economic Research in 1999. He has been in his current position since 2002.
