From: Purnendra Jain
Posted Date: 1995/06/15
The Japanese Studies Association of Australia is holding its Ninth Biennial conference at the University of Queensland in Brisbane from 3-6 July. One highlight of this conference is a workshop on 'Heisei Politics: Transitory Alliances in the Emerging Political Landscape'. Paper givers include Takashi Inoguchi (bureaucracy), Masumi Ishikawa (elections) Tomoaki Iwai (agricultural politics) Purnendra Jain (party politics) Junko Kato (Tax reform), Akira Kubota
(big business) Terry MacDougall (voter behaviour at the local level) Minoru Nakano (the changing legislative process) Steven Reed (a story of three booms: from the NLC to the Hosokawa government) and Donna Weeks (women in the Diet).
The Association publishes a journal: Japanese Studies: Bulletin of the Japanese Studies Association of Australia, which is edited by Purnendra C. Jain. The Bulletin is published three times a year--May, September and December. In Tokyo, the International House Library and the Japan Foundation Library receive the journal. Some North American libraries (Princeton, Harvard) as well as Cambridge and Oxford in the UK are subscribers. The journal has an editorial board consisting of scholars from North America, the UK, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore and Australia. The editor is looking for quality papers for consideration. One of the aims of the journal is to encourage submissions from graduate students and those who are at the early stages of their academic career. So, if you know anyone who might have a paper, please advise her/him to get in touch with me at the following address:
