About the talk: Professor Akiko Kamesaka analyzes changes in people's worldviews and subjective well-being (happiness) before and after the Great East Japan Earthquake, using a large panel data set which samples over 4000 Japanese citizens. She was invited to speak on this subject at the 4th OECD World Forum on "Statics, Knowledge and Policy" in 2012. Dr.
Tim Tiefenbach will make a short presentation and comment on the effects of March 11 on people's happiness levels. Tim has published a working paper "Happiness from the Viewpoint of Economics-Findings from recent survey data in Japan"

About the speaker: Dr. Kamesaka is a Professor at Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo, School of Business Administration. She has worked as accountant at accounting firm in Tokyo, and has studied at the University of Tokyo Graduate school of economics. She has served as a member of Osaka City Council, Kyoto City Council and several other institutions. She is currently serving as a visiting research fellow at Economic and Social Research Institute, Cabinet Office of Japan. Her research interests include well-being, behavioral economics and finance.
She received Ibbotson Associates japan Research Award for her research on investor behavior in Japan.

Dr. Tim Tiefenbach received a PhD in Economics from the University of Bayreuth. He is working as a senior research fellow at the German Institute for Japanese Studies since 2011. In his current research project he compares the life satisfaction of temporary and permanent employees with the aim to derive normative conclusions for the reform of the Japanese labour market. His research interests are laid in happiness economics, new institutional economics and economic ethics.
