*Overview*

We would like to invite you to an ICAS session on child soldiers in central
Africa. We will show a 15-minute segment from the
documentary Kony 2012
by Invisible Children, followed by a discussion with John Amari and Marie-Claire Bagazonzya.


*Speaker *

*John Amari *is a Ugandan-born freelance writer who has lived in Kenya, the United Kingdom and Japan. Before living in the UK, he experienced three civil wars in Uganda and survived an attack on his primary school by Kony and the Lord's Resistance Army. He graduated in History from the University of London and worked as an administrator in the Crown Prosecution Service (London).
Between 2006 and 2010 he was a JET teacher in Ibaraki prefecture.
He visited northern Uganda to carry out private research in 2009 and 2010 including meetings with former child soldiers in Gulu, Northern Uganda.

*Marie-Claire Bagazonzya *was born in Kenya but grew up in Uganda. She moved to the US in 2004 and has been involved with Invisible Children since then. She is currently a student at Temple University Japan Campus.
