[SSJ: 7265] March 19 Abe Colloquium "How Will North Korea Change?"

From: Abe Tokyo Office
Date: 2012/03/09

**************************The Abe Fellowship Program presents ****************************** ABE FELLOWSHIP COLLOQUIUM

How Will North Korea Change?

The death of Kim Jong Il has led some North Korea experts to predict a sweeping shift in the regime's relations with the outside world. Many have been anticipating de-stabilization and radical change in a regime we've assumed is "on the brink" of collapse.
However, much of the upheaval in North
Korea-negotiations for food aid and to restart the Six Party Talks, the spread of legal and illegal technology-began long before Kim Jong Un succeeded his father. By predicting change have we blinded ourselves to the possibility of a smooth transition in a functional system? Based upon his research, Professor Boynton will discuss the meaning of recent developments in North Korea and the implications for nuclear negotiations, human rights, the abduction issue, and economic development.
