Japanese Delegation to the National Model United Nations event

Date: Monday 5 March, 2012
Time: 10:00 - 17:30
Location: United Nations University Reception Hall (2F)
Contact: Christopher Hobson, UNU-ISP: hobson@unu.edu

A group of Japanese undergraduate students will come to UNU to practice presentations that they will give as Model UN delegates at the National Model United Nations Conference (NMUN) in New York later this year.

Model United Nations is a simulation of international conferences in which each participant plays a role of a delegate of a UN member state. While playing the role of delegates and pursuing their representing countries'
national interests, the participants make speeches, negotiate with allies and adversaries, and prepare draft resolutions. The goal of the conference is to adopt resolutions to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world.

In preparation for the 2012 NMUN Conference, eight students representing the Somali Republic and one student representing the Russian Federation will make a presentation on the position and policies regarding the agenda their committee was assigned. Although the presentation itself will not be used in the actual conference, the content of their presentation will be the basis of their diplomatic strategy and policy, which will be reflected in their speeches, negotiation process, and draft resolutions. Each 15 minute-long presentation is followed by 20 minutes of feedback, in which the audience may ask questions and make comments.
