The World Bank's reforms of its own institutional culture won acclaim from leading management experts in Europe and America. Dr. Mieko Nishimizu will talk about the core and the background of the reform process she led as the vice president. Dreaming the world without poverty, Dr. Nishimizu's actions were guided by her own vision, passion and convictions during her career. This seminar will provide insights into organizational behavior and leadership.


Speakers' Profile:
Ph.D. Economics, the Johns Hopkins University, 1975. Assistant Professor, Economics Department & the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University, 1975~1980. Joined the World Bank, Development Economics Research Department, in 1980. Served in various economist and management positions. Having served as the Director of IBRD Risk Management & Financial Policy, was appointed as the Regional Vice President for South Asia in 1997. Since leaving the World Bank in 2003, advises leaders in business and politics globally. A partner of ThinkTank SophiaBank since 2007. (www.sophiabank.co.jp)

Since its establishment in 1997, the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), as the only graduate school in Japan specializing in policy research, has promoted education and research on a wide range of policy issues. Utilizing our vast policy network, this Forum invites leaders from various fields including government, academia and business, as well as staff from our own faculty, to deliver lectures on current policy concerns. The Forum welcomes attendance of GRIPS faculty and students as well as participants from outside the university. Simultaneous interpretation will be available (Japanese/English).
