Date: 2011/02/23

Dear friends and colleagues,

Fondation France Japon de l'EHESS is pleased to invite you to it next Japanese week (Paris, 14-21 mars)

Youth in the Crisis: a Lost Generation?

Program of the events (2011, March 14th – March 21st)

Organized by Fondation France-Japon de l’EHESS

With the support of The Japan Foundation and of ANA

In partnership with Cercles de formation de l’EHESS, Editions de l’EHESS, and Le Monde

In collaboration with INALCO, Paris 1 University and ESSEC

French and Japanese youth share some similarities regarding their education, their selection and their integration into working life. Since 2008, both youths face a deep crisis that primarily concerns new comers on the labour market. This situation raises the issue of social relations between generations and leads to the analysis of the so-called "scaring effect": will the difficulties in entering the labour market during crisis affect durably the future trajectories? This effect has been uncovered by Japanese researchers during the "Lost Decade" in the 1990s. During this "Japanese week", Japanese, French, American and Canadian researchers will discuss the perspectives of young generations through a symposium, debates, and seminars. They will also analyze the social and political issues of such a situation in ageing societies.
