[SSJ: 6484] Invitation to a tour of the Honolulu fish auction during the AAS-ICAS joint conference

From: Paul Christensen
Date: 2011/01/07

The Center for Japanese Studies (CJS) at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa is sponsoring a tour of the Honolulu fish auction during the upcoming AAS-ICAS joint conference. The Honolulu fish auction is modeled on Tokyo's Tsujiki and is the only fresh tuna auction in the United States. The tour should be of particular interest to scholars of Japan, fisheries, markets, as well as anyone wanting to see more of Hawaiʻi during the conference.

The tour is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 4:45 – 7:45 am. Participants will be picked up at the Ala Moana Hotel at 4:45 am and arrive at the market a little after 5:00 am. The tour ends at 6:30 am and is followed by a roundtable discussion over breakfast, chaired by Dr. Theodore Bestor from the Department of Anthropology at Harvard University. Participation is limited to 25 people, so please RSVP to cjs@hawaii.edu or call 808-956-2667 with your name and affiliation before March 1, 2011. There is a required $10 donation to the Honolulu fish auction.
