The world economy is recovering gradually from the financial crisis. However, serious problems remain, like the sovereign crisis in Europe and global conflicts over currency policies. Can a new world order of policy coordination be established to resolve these problems in 2011? Will this be the year in which the financial crisis comes to an end?

Panelists' Profile:
Mr. Chi Hung Kwan
Chi Hung Kwan (C.H. Kwan) has been a Senior Fellow at the Nomura Institute of Capital Markets Research since 2004. Prior to his current position he was a Senior Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry
(RIETI) from 2001 through 2004. From 1987 to 2001, he was a Senior Economist at the Nomura Research Institute. Dr. Kwan received his bachelor's degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and his Ph. D. in Economics from the University of Tokyo. He is the author of Yen Bloc - Toward Economic Integration in Asia, Brookings Institution Press, 2001; and Economic Interdependence in the Asia-Pacific Region: Towards a Yen Bloc, Routledge:
London, 1994. He has published eight books in Japanese, the latest being China as No. 1.

Mr. Atsushi Nakajima
Mr. Atsushi Nakajima graduated from the University of Tokyo and joined The Industrial Bank of Japan, ltd. in 1975. He was appointed as President of Banque IBJ
(France) S.A., Executive Officer, Chief Economist & General Manager of the Research Division at Mizuho Corporate Bank. He has served as an advisor to the Committee on Management and Labor Policy at the Nippon Keidanren (Japan Business Federation). He is the author of "Sekai Keizai Rensa suru Kiki (Japanese Title)"
(The Chaining Risks of the World Economy), 2009 published by Tokyo Keizai, Inc.

Moderator's Profile:
Prof. Hiroko Ota
Professor Hiroko Ota was an Associate Professor at Saitama University in
1996 and then at GRIPS in 1997. From 2002-05 Ms. Ota served as Director, Deputy Director General, and Director General for the Economic Research Bureau at the Cabinet Office. In 2006 she was appointed as Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy for the Abe Cabinet, then for the Fukuda Cabinet in 2007.
In 2008 Ms. Ota returned to GRIPS as Vice President and Professor of Economics.

Since its establishment in 1997, the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS), as the only graduate school in Japan specializing in policy research, has promoted education and research on a wide range of policy issues. Utilizing our vast policy network, this Forum invites leaders from various fields including government, academia and business, as well as staff from our own faculty, to deliver lectures on current policy concerns. The Forum welcomes attendance of GRIPS faculty and students as well as participants from outside the university. Simultaneous interpretation will be available (Japanese/English).
